Product Specification :
A Wedge Anchor is a heavy-duty, torque-controlled mechanical expansion anchor used exclusively in solid concrete. It is often referred to as a "Through-Bolt" because it can be installed through the fixture without moving it. It provides high pull-out resistance and is the industry standard for structural steel and heavy machinery anchoring.
+1
1. Anatomy & Design
The wedge anchor consists of three integrated components:
The Stud: A fully or partially threaded steel bolt with a tapered, cold-formed "mandrel" (cone) at the base.
The Expansion Clip: A small, stainless steel or carbon steel ring/collar that wraps around the tapered end.
Nut & Washer: Included to provide clamping force against the fixture.
2. Material & Finish
Feature Specification
Material Grades Carbon Steel (Grade 5 equivalent) or Stainless Steel (A4-316 / A2-304).
Expansion Clip Often made of 316 Stainless Steel even on carbon bolts to ensure a consistent "bite."
Finish Zinc Plated, Hot-Dip Galvanized, or Mechanically Galvanized.
3. Key Technical Specifications
Anchor Diameter: Equal to the drill bit diameter (e.g., a $12\text{mm}$ anchor uses a $12\text{mm}$ bit).
Embedment Depth: Critical for load rating. Most anchors have a "minimum" and "standard" embedment line marked on the bolt.
Base Material: Solid Concrete only. Unlike Rawlbolts, wedge anchors are generally not recommended for brick or block because the concentrated expansion force can shatter the material.
4. Installation Steps
Drill: Drill a hole through the fixture and into the concrete. The hole should be slightly deeper than the anchor's length.
Clean: Blow out all dust and concrete slurry.
Insert: Drive the anchor into the hole with a hammer until the washer is flush with the fixture.
Tighten: Use a torque wrench to tighten the nut. As the nut turns, the stud pulls upward, forcing the tapered mandrel into the expansion clip, wedging it permanently into the concrete.
5. Performance Advantages
Immediate Loading: Unlike chemical anchors, wedge anchors can be loaded to full capacity immediately after tightening.
Reliability: The stainless steel clip ensures the anchor continues to "grip" even if the concrete experiences minor cracking or stress over time.
Consistency: Because the drill bit size matches the anchor size, there is no "slop" or movement during installation.
6. Comparison: Wedge Anchor vs. Pin Type
Feature Wedge Anchor Pin Type Anchor
Adjustment Can be tightened or loosened via nut. Permanent once pin is driven.
Loading High tension/vibration resistance. Best for shear/static loads.
Removal Can be unscrewed (bolt remains). Extremely difficult to remove.
